Marathon Therapy Sessions are an alternative to traditional weekly sessions for individuals and couples. It’s a condensed and focused approach to counseling that will provide you with the time you need to address specific issues and get you back on track.

In this powerful therapy format, you’ll meet with your highly trained and specialized therapist for 3-6 hours depending on your needs.

Marathon sessions require a one-hour assessment with the therapist and a week scheduling in advance.

Marathon Therapy for Individuals

A marathon session for an individual is a 3-6 hour therapy session where you and your therapist can take a deep dive into the struggles that keeping you from your ideal self. Typically, many weekly sessions are spent on updating the therapist on your week and then learning and practicing one tool or skill and then identifying homework that would help you towards your goal.

In a marathon session, the therapist and client can band together to walk through a deep relaxation exercise before you tackle past trauma, unhealthy beliefs, and learn/practice new skills to transform your life.

This is a particularly helpful modality for individuals who are ready to tackle past trauma and emotional injuries, who are going through a life transition, or for those who are ready to redefine themselves in a deep and meaningful way.

The therapist will include any therapeutic tools they deem necessary to support the therapy which may include a workbook, journal, essential oils, etc.

Marathon Therapy for Couples

Marathon therapy for couples is a transformative alternative to weekly hour-long sessions. We can achieve the healing and training it would take you two months of therapy sessions to gain in one 6-hour day.

The Gottman Institute explains,

“You will have time to talk in depth about the struggles and challenges of the relationship that simply cannot happen in the tradition style of couples therapy. There is time to process past injuries that have never healed, and time to understand how these injuries have impacted the relationship. There is time to learn and practice new communication skills to help you have more productive conversations. There’s time to rebuild.”

The therapist will provide an environment of safety for both partners. You will be treated with dignity and respect, without judgment, throughout the process. Couples who have experienced this form of therapy usually describe it as life-changing and transformative.

Marathon Couples Therapy offers some practical benefits as well. It’s a good fit for couples who want intensive therapy but don’t live in the vicinity of a Certified Gottman Therapist. It’s also a good fit for couples whose schedules do not allow for them to go to weekly therapy sessions. And finally, it’s a great fit for couples who need to get help immediately.”
