Hey, I’m Kayla! I’m a licensed clinical social worker who takes a collaborative and solution-focused approach to counseling. I offer action-oriented strategies so you can leave session knowing exactly how to enact change throughout the week.
I pride myself on being down-to-earth and approachable while being knowledgeable of the latest research and skills in the therapeutic world. I feel counseling should be more than just venting; you are seeking a mental health professional because something in your life feels uncomfortable and you are ready to make a change, and I’m here to help you on that journey!
I specialize working with couples and am trained in the Gottman Method to improve communication patterns, build trust, learn co-parenting strategies, and enhance the couple’s connection and intimacy. The Gottman Method is an approach to couples therapy that includes a thorough assessment of the couple relationship and integrates research-based interventions based on the Sound Relationship House Theory.
I also work with individuals who struggle with anxiety, depression, life transitions, and relationship struggles by utilizing several different evidenced-based therapeutic approaches. The approaches I use the most are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.
Some of the most powerful skills I work with my clients on are:
- Increasing Mindfulness
- Gaining Control of Your Thoughts
- Improving Self-Esteem
- Assertive Interpersonal Skills
- Initiating, Maintaining, and Deepening Relationships
- Stopping Negative Behavior/Mental Habits
- Sex/Porn Addictions
- Working through Trauma
- Manage Stress
- Effective Parenting Strategies
- Increasing Sex Drive
- Ending Toxic Relationships
I believe counseling can be used to increase happiness and meaning in life as well as healing pains and making changes. I have helped clients change their habits, improve their relationships, and heal from past traumas and I’ve also helped people become mindful, improve their parenting, and change their careers. I feel treatment should be catered to you and your own unique goals. Through counseling, we will explore what you are seeking, set milestones for progress, and tailor a personal approach to help you heal and improve your life.
Therapy should be comfortable, private, and relaxed. It is important to find a counselor who you connect with, is knowledgeable about your issues, and competent to treat them with a style that fits with your world view.
